Kinila Ventures is a partnership firm combining scientific and research expertise with commercial strategy — built to take ideas from concept to practice, in the places that need them most.
Kinila Ventures is based in Bailore, Udupi, Karnataka — a region with a strong tradition of community life, healthcare, and education that shapes everything we do. We are a partnership combining deep expertise in healthcare science and research with commercial and business development experience.
The firm operates through three arms — each asking the same question in a different context: how do we make knowledge and care more accessible to the people who need them most?
The scientific and research work at Kinila is led by Mridula, a founding partner who holds a PhD in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and brings 18+ years of experience across diagnostics, vaccines, digital health, and global health systems.
There is a particular focus on translation in low- and middle-income country contexts — not adapting solutions designed elsewhere, but building from the ground up for the realities of the settings they will be used in. This led directly to the design and validation of Kinila AI Health — an AI-based clinical decision support tool for community health workers in Karnataka, putting clinical knowledge in the hands of the people closest to patients, in places where specialists are hours away.
Research capacity in low- and middle-income countries is often strongest at the science and weakest at the funding and translation layer. Closing that gap is what Kinila is for.
A parallel interest in behavioural science — how design, framing, and environment shape the decisions people make about their own health — runs through the work on antimicrobial stewardship, nutrition interventions, and community health programme design.
Extensive travel across 60+ countries, mostly in the developing world and driven by personal curiosity, has added a different layer of understanding — how culture and context shape the way people make decisions, which feeds directly into how interventions are designed to actually work in the settings they are meant for.
Kinila Commons is a little different from the other arms. It is not a consulting practice or a technology product — it is a community library and gathering space in Bailore, Udupi, run as a community initiative and partnership.
It comes from the same belief that runs through the rest of Kinila's work — that knowledge should not be a privilege. A well-stocked library, a good conversation, and a cup of coffee can change what someone believes is possible for themselves. That is worth building too.
Whether you are interested in the consulting practice, the AI Health tool, or the community library — we would like to hear from you.
